Pakistan celebrates 85th National Day in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu marked the 85th National Day of Pakistan with a flag-hoisting ceremony on Sunday.

Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi hoisted the Pakistani flag and read out messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister issued on the occasion of the National Day, according to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu.

In his message, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari urged Pakistanis to honor the sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding fathers and uphold the principles of unity, faith and discipline to strengthen national security, economy and youth opportunities. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, regional stability and support for the self-determination struggles of Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

Similarly, Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif recalled the Lahore Resolution of 1940 that led to Pakistan’s creation. He paid tribute to the nation’s armed forces and martyrs for safeguarding sovereignty. Likewise, Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar praised overseas Pakistanis for their patriotism and contributions to the nation’s progress.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Hashmi commended the Pakistani community and staff and urged them for unity and hard work for Pakistan’s prosperity.
