KATHMANDU: More than 71,000 Nepalis left for foreign job destinations in 92 countries in the fifth month (mid-November to mid-December) of fiscal year 2023/24.

According to the Department of Foreign Employment, it issued a total of 71,276 labor permits, including re-entry permits, in the review month.

The number of workers receiving new labor permits during the month is 26,375, including 2,763 women. Likewise, 7,997 received individual labor permits, 1,708 received permits for South Korea, and 35,196 received re-entry permits.

Data compiled by the department shows that over 300,000 Nepalis have left for foreign employment in the first five months of 2023/24.

The UAE remained the most popular job destination for Nepali workers in the fifth month, with 18,493 leaving for the UAE during the month. According to the department, 8,085 received institutional labor permits, 2,411 received individual labor permits, and 7,997 received re-entry permits for the Gulf nation.

Qatar came second, receiving 14,152 Nepali workers. Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Kuwait came third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, with 13,983, 9,775, and 3,458 Nepali workers.

According to the department, Nepalis received 50 and 85 labor permits for war-torn Russia and Israel, respectively, during the month.
