KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed more than 600,000 foreign tourists by air in the first eight months of 2023.
According to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NRB), a total of 601,360 foreign tourists arrived in the country between January and August.
In August alone, Nepal received 67,153 tourists, marking a healthy increase compared to the same period in 2022 when 41,304 tourists visited Nepal. Prior to the COVID pandemic, Nepal had welcomed 73,814 tourists. Arrival data for August indicates that Nepal is approaching its pre-pandemic arrival figures.
In August, India emerged as the largest travel market for Nepal, with 26,665 tourists from the southern neighbor visiting the country. Other notable contributors included China (5,027), the USA (4,629), Sri Lanka (3,558), and Bangladesh.
