Over 60 missing as landslide sweeps two passengers buses into Narayani River

KATHMANDU: Over 60 passengers have gone missing after a landslide on the Muglin-Narayanghat road pushed two passenger buses into the rain-swollen Narayani River early Friday morning.

The landslide swept away the Ganapati Deluxe, which was heading to Gaur from Kathmandu with 41 passengers, and the Angel bus coming to Kathmandu from Birgunj with 24 passengers near the Simaltal area at around 3:30 am, according to the Armed Police Force.

Three passengers from the Ganapati Deluxe managed to swim to safety, according to the District Police Office, Chitwan.

Rescue operations are underway, police said.

In a separate incident, the driver of a bus heading to Butwal from Kathmandu died when a boulder fell on the bus on the Muglin-Narayanghat road at around 3 pm.
