JANAKPURDHAM: More than 53,000 people have applied for Election Police, a temporary position created to ensure security for the House of Representatives elections, from Madhesh Province.
According to Madhesh Provincial Police Office, a total of 53,338 applicants have submitted applications for temporary recruitment in the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal across the province.
The province has been allocated 28,295 election police police personnel. However, 48,250 have applied for the vacant positions with Nepal Police, and 5,088 with the APF Nepal.
District-wise data show that Dhanusha (6,916 applicants) recorded the highest number of applications for the Nepal Police. Bara was next with 6,778 applicants, followed by Rautahat (6,284), Sarlahi (6,265), and Parsa (5,399). Similarly, Mahottari received 5,359 applications, Saptari 6,395, and Siraha 4,459.
For the APF Nepal, applications were received from all districts except Mahottari. Bara recorded 1,664 applications, Saptari 1,117, Siraha 622, Parsa 521, Rautahat 469, Sarlahi 396, and Dhanusha 299.
Dhanusha (4,142) has been allotted the highest number of positions of election police personnel, followed by Sarlahi (3,926), Saptari (3,837), Bara (3,638), Rautahat (3,466), Mahottari (3,447), Siraha (3,372), and Parsa (2,467).
According to the provincial police, the selection process will now proceed based on physical fitness tests, medical examinations, and other prescribed criteria.
