KATHMANDU: A total of 4,285 candidates, or 76.4% of the total candidates, lost their election deposits after failing to get the minimum votes required.
According to the Election Commission, 1961 candidates in the election of the House of Representatives and 2,324 candidates of the election of seven province assemblies.
According to the Election Commission, candidates securing less than 10% of the total votes cast lose their election deposit. Similarly, parties lose their election deposit if it fails win any seat under the proportional representation (PR) system.
Of the 47 political parties submitting the closed list of candidates for the PR system in the House of Representatives, 40 lost their deposits.
