KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has emphasized the need for the party to develop a comprehensive blueprint for the country’s development over the next 15 years.
Addressing questions raised by central working committee members on Monday, he said the focus should be on long-term planning rather than solely targeting the upcoming election.
Sharma urged the party to move beyond immediate electoral concerns and concentrate on formulating a 15-year plan to shape the nation’s future. “If we only focus on elections, when will we address the country’s needs? To win elections, we must chart a course for the next 15 years, not just five,” he stated.
He revealed that the central working committee has discussed a wide range of critical issues, including those related to the Madhesh and Karnali provinces, the agriculture sector, community schools, cooperatives, high bank loans, the private sector, youth, good governance, and healthcare, among others. By raising these issues, NC leaders have drawn the government’s attention, Sharma added.
Unlike other political parties that rushed to launch ‘Mission 2027’ targeting the next election, Sharma said that the NC will not immediately focus on the electoral cycle. “We can discuss the election one year earlier in 2026,” he added.
Sharma also defended the decision to livestream the central working committee proceedings, stating that it demonstrates NC’s commitment to transparency. “We are presenting the party without any exaggeration. The livestreaming of party proceedings will have an impact on other political parties. He challenged other parties to tolerate questions and criticisms like the NC does.
