KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that all six ordinances introduced by the government will be passed.
Speaking at a program organized by the Science and Technology Department of CPN-UML in Kathmandu on Friday, Pokharel dismissed concerns over opposition to the ordinances.
“All ordinances introduced by the government will be passed,” he said. “The government has multiple options to implement legal reforms introduced through the ordinances. Necessary regulations would be formulated duly for implementation of these laws.”
The government introduced the ordinances in the second week of January. As per the constitutional provision, the ordinances should be passed by a majority vote within 60 days of the beginning of the parliamentary session.
While the government commands a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives, it lacks the necessary number for the passage of the ordinances in the upper house.
Coalition partners Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal have already stated that they would not support land-related ordinance.
