KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Center), has leveled multiple accusations against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government which completed 100 days on Wednesday.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota made more than a dozen allegations against the Oli government.
The Maoist Center has claimed the Oli government has been proven to protect middlemen and brokers. According to the statement, the government deliberately transferred police officers who were investigating the Bhutanese refugee scandal and gold smuggling cases immediately after its formation. The main opposition also alleged that the Prime Minister intervened to block the presentation of Tribhuvan University’s policies and programs. It also criticized the government’s act of renewing the license of a private telecommunication provider that has pending revenue dues of Rs 20 billion.
The Maoist Center has accused the government of showing double standards in electricity tariff collection. “The government which cuts power supply to household consumers who can’t pay monthly bills, resumes power supply to industries with millions in unpaid dues,” the party said. It also criticized the government for conspiring to replace the leadership of the NEA, which had successfully achieved nationwide electrification and reached a position to export electricity.
The main opposition also alleged that the government showed double standards while implementing the report of the parliamentary special investigation committee. “The government is protecting ruling party leaders involved in corruption while selectively pursuing opposition figures for punishment,” it added
The Maoist Centre also said the formation of a coalition government of the two largest parties, Nepali Congress Congress and CPN-UML, is contrary to the spirit of the constitution.
