Opposition parties slam speaker’s conduct, question impartiality

KATHMANDU: The opposition parties concluded that Speaker Devraj Ghimire failed to uphold the dignity of his position.

They arrived at the conclusion in the meeting held after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal obtained a vote of trust amid obstruction by the opposition on Monday. The opposition parties have also decided to raise the demand for the formation of a parliamentary panel from both parliament and the streets.

“The Speaker’s conduct on Monday was like that of a political party cadre,” Chief Whip of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Gyanendra Shahi, said. “Now we will raise the matter in parliament as well as the streets.”

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said the formation of a parliamentary panel to probe cooperative fraud allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane is their bottom line.

Meanwhile, NC leaders are furious with PM Dahal after he leveled serious allegations against the party during his address in the parliament earlier on Monday.
