One dead in election violence in remote Bajura

DHANGADHI: At least on person died as cadres of political parties clashed with police in remote Bajura district of Sudurpaschim Province on Sunday.

According to the local police, the incident occurred after cadres of political parties clashed with police personnel at a polling center in Tribeni Metropolitan City Ward-7.

Police initially fired in the air after cadres of different political parties clashed with each other due to a dispute related to the voting process. The situation went out of control after the cadres started attacking police personnel.

According to Juddha Bahadur Aidi, chairperson of Ward-7, Surendra Aidi, a local of the area, died after receiving bullet. The situation is still tense, the ward chairperson added.

Few locals and police personnel are said to be injured in the incident. A Nepal Army chopper has reached the polling station to airlift the injured to district headquarters Chainpur.

Nepalis across the country voted in the election for the House of Representatives and province assemblies on Sunday.
