KATHMANDU: The judicial inquiry commission probing the incidents of September 8 and 9 has lifted travel restrictions imposed on former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.
The commission had imposed a travel ban on Oli, then home minister Ramesh Lekhak, among others, on September 28.
Commission Spokesperson and former AIG of Nepal Police Bigyan Raj Sharma said on Monday that Oli’s travel restriction had been lifted. “In the course of investigating the incidents of September 8 and 9, a meeting held on September 28 had decided to bar the then Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli—who was within the scope of the investigation—from travelling abroad and from leaving the Kathmandu Valley without the commission’s approval. As the commission has already completed questioning and other necessary inquiries with him regarding the actions he took in his capacity as prime minister in connection with those incidents, the rationale for restricting his foreign travel and movement outside the Valley has ended, and therefore the restriction has been lifted,” Sharma said.
Oli had submitted his written statement to a team from the commission on Sunday.
