KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on protesting teachers and employees to engage in dialogue with the government.
Addressing the Himalayan Dialogue in Kathmandu on Monday, Oli assured that the government is ready to address the legitimate demands of the teachers and school staff. “Teachers are protesting in Kathmandu right now. I don’t know why this is happening. I am the Prime Minister, and I am saying this—bring your legitimate demands to us. There is no need for protests; we are prepared to address them,” Oli added.
He also urged the teachers not to resort to lying down on the streets or enduring hardships, urging them instead to hold discussions with the government. “Come, let’s talk and find a solution,” he added.
Teachers and employees, led by the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT), have been protesting in Kathmandu since Wednesday. They are demanding immediate enactment of the School Education Act in line with repeated agreements made with the government.
