KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Sunday.
Chief Whip of the ruling parties, Mahesh Bartaula, said on Wednesday that the Prime Minister will seek a trust vote on Sunday. “I would like to inform all that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will seek a vote of confidence in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday,” he added.
The CPN-UML chairperson was appointed Prime Minister as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015 on Sunday. As per the constitution, the prime minister is required to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of his/her appointment.
Oli is leading a coalition government of Nepali Congress (NC), UML, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party. He must secure the support of 138 members in the 275-member House of Representatives.
He is certain to get 176 votes – 88 votes from Nepali Congress, 77 from his party UML, seven from JSP and four from LSP.
Lawmakers of other parties like Janamat Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are also expected to support Oli.
