KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed gratitude to both India and Pakistan for averting a potential conflict between the two neighboring countries.
Speaking at the 2569th Buddha Jayanti celebration in Lumbini on Monday, he expressed satisfaction that the situation did not escalate to war despite rising tensions.
“Just a few days ago, there was a slight skirmish in our neighborhood. But they did not let it escalate into a full-scale conflict. I thank them for their restraint,” Oli said. “From the beginning, we urged that tensions should not escalate and that there should be no war.”
Oli also said that his government had communicated with both India and Pakistan, advising them to avoid heading toward war.
The Prime Minister also said that Buddha’s teachings of peace and non-violence remain highly relevant in today’s world. He stressed the need to use Buddha’s teachings as a foundation for peace, cooperation and coexistence in South Asia.
