KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli made a telephone call to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye on Thursday, urging him to make diplomatic efforts for the safe release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi who has been held hostage by Hamas.

In response, the Turkish President assured that he would take the matter seriously and initiate necessary steps. Erdoğan also reminded Prime Minister Oli of the invitation to participate in a diplomatic conference scheduled to be held in Türkiye in April.

The two leaders also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of economics, science, and technology.

Oli also requested Erdoğan to keep Bipin’s family and the Nepali community informed about the developments, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Prime Minister Oli reached out to the President of Egypt on March 10 to seek assistance in securing Joshi’s release.

Joshi has been held hostage by Hamas since their attack on Israel in October 2023.
