KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is seeking a vote of confidence later on Sunday.
A meeting of the House of Representatives has been scheduled for 1 pm for this purpose.
The CPN-UML Chairperson was appointed Prime Minister with the support of the Nepali Congress (NC), the largest party in the lower house, last Sunday. As per the constitution, a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more parties must obtain a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives within 30 days of appointment.
Oli needs to secure the support of 138 members in the 275-member House of Representatives to pass the floor test. Oli appears to have a two-thirds majority in the lower house, as lawmakers from the NC, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), JSP Nepal, Janamat, and Nagarik Unmukti, along with his party UML, will vote in favor of his motion of confidence.
Only CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) CPN (Unified Socialist) have said that they would vote against the motion of confidence.
