Oli says Ghising’s removal part of a regular administrative process Kulman Ghising

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the removal of Kulman Ghising from his position as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was a natural course of action.

“Generally, if any employee fails to show loyalty to the concerned minister, the chain of command does not function smoothly. Whether the minister’s feelings are right or wrong is also subject to scrutiny,” Oli said, speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday.

Opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Center), had been obstructing Parliament for several days over Ghising’s removal. Oli argued that blocking the House over an individual employee’s issue had hindered important parliamentary work.

“I don’t believe this is the place to comment on the merits or faults of civil servants. There are established procedures for that. This very House has set the rules for rewarding good work and taking action against wrongdoers,” Oli said, adding that actions such as transfers, reassignments, seeking clarifications, issuing warnings, or even removing someone from their post are routine administrative processes. “Not just the current government, but every government does this. It has happened before and will continue to happen. Those dissatisfied have the right to legal recourse, and that too has been exercised in the past,” he added.

Oli also said further deliberations on the issue are not necessary as the matter is sub judice.
