Oli requests India to accept EPG report

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has requested India to receive the report of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) which was formed to review bilateral issues including the 1950 treaty.

Oli added that it would be easier to have further dialogue on border disputes and other issues if India accepted this report.

The CPN-UML Chairperson also stated that problems between neighboring countries can be resolved through dialogue. Launching a book by former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kamal Thapa, in Kathmandu on Monday, Oli said that occasional problems between neighboring countries are normal and can be resolved through open dialogue.

Oli said problems won’t arise if solutions are sought based on facts and evidence while upholding legitimate national interests and international responsibilities.

The Prime Minister also recalled that when India imposed a blockade on Nepal in 2015, the trade and transit treaty signed with China during his tenure as Prime Minister was a revolutionary step.

He also cautioned against attributing internal weaknesses and self-interests to ‘geopolitical’ influence, urging instead to prioritize the nation.
