KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met with Dr Muhammad Yunus, the chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

The two leaders discussed Nepal-Bangladesh relations, focusing on energy and transit, cooperation, tourism and cultural exchanges. “Discussed Nepal-Bangladesh relations, focusing on energy & transit cooperation, tourism, cultural exchanges, educational ties & cooperation in regional/multilateral forums,” Oli wrote in a post on social media platform X.

Nepal, Bangladesh and India were preparing to enter into a tripartite agreement for the export of 40 MW of hydropower from Nepal to Bangladesh using India’s transmission infrastructure in the last week of July. However, it has been postponed due to political change in Bangladesh.

The new government said last week that it would give continuity to the previous government’s initiative to import power from Nepal.

Earlier on the day, Alice Albright, the CEO of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), paid a courtesy call on PM Oli. Oli said in the meeting he looks forward to the early completion of the project for high-quality connectivity through transmission lines and highways.

Nepal is implementing an electricity transmission line and highway upgrading projects under the MCC grant.
