KATHMANDU: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has claimed that the current government will not last long.
Speaking at an event in Sukute of Sindhupalchowk on Tuesday, Dahal termed the KP Sharma Oli-led government unnatural, non-transparent and unconstitutional.
He alleged that while his government was working to control corruption and promote good governance, the two largest parties in parliament quickly formed a government overnight to protect corrupt individuals. “The first and the second largest parties in parliament joined forces to form a government with the sole aim of protecting the corrupt,” Dahal said. “Two largest parties coming together to form government does not augur well for the democracy. If we need a strong democracy, this should not happen. The first party should lead the government, and the second party should play the role of a watchdog.”
Dahal also said that President Ram Chandra Poudel was under immense pressure during the government formation process. “Until the last moment, the President was prepared to form the government under Sub-clause 3 of the Constitution. Despite being aware of the situation, he made his decision,” Dahal said.
Dahal, however, added that his party was not immediately planning to topple this government. “We have not said that we would topple this government and join the new government,” he added.
