KATHMANDU: The new office-bearers of the National Information Commission (NIC) were sworn in on Wednesday.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Commissioner Dr Suresh Prasad Acharya amid a ceremony on Tuesday morning.
Later, Chief Commissioner Acharya administered the oath of office to Commissioners Gagan Bista and Durga Bhandari in the presence of the Prime Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Oli said the NIC should play an effective role in implementing and promoting the right to information, which is enshrined as a fundamental right in the constitution. He also cautioned against the misuse of the right to information.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, Secretary of the Ministry Radhika Aryal, and other officials were present on the occasion.
The cabinet had appointed office-bearers to the NIC on The Council of Ministers had appointed the officials to the commission on November 21.
