KATHMANDU: Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has filed a petition at the Supreme Court, challenging the decision of the Patan High Court to release rape-accused former national cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane on bail.
The OAG filed the petition on Tuesday, demanding that Lamichhane should be taken into detention until a final verdict is pronounced.
A division bench of Judges Dhrubaraj Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal of Patan High Court annulled the decision of the Kathmandu District Court to keep Lamichhane in detention pending trial, and decided to release Lamichhane on Rs 2 million bail on January 12.
Lamichhane was released on January 13 after he furnished the bail amount.
A 17-year-old girl filed a case against Lamichhane at Metropolitan Police Range, Gaushala, on September 6, accusing the star cricketer of raping her two on the night of August 21.
