NPC trails TAC by 18 runs as 17 wickets fall on Day 1

KATMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) trails Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) by 18 runs after 17 wickets fell on Day 1 of their Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup at the Narayani Stadium on Sunday.

Batting first, TAC was dismissed for 121 runs in 38.4 overs as Lalit Rajbanshi delivered an exceptional performance with the ball, taking seven wickets for just 47 runs in 14.4 overs. TAC’s top-order struggled as the departmental side lost three wickets with only 12 runs on the board. However, Kushal Malla scored 25 and Bhim Sharki got 22 as TAC fought back. However, TAC kept losing wickets at regular intervals.   Captain Binod Bhandari was out for 21, Basir Ahamad scored 22 and Shahab Alam got 11 runs for TAC.

Kushal Bhurtel, Sarwan Yadav and Rashid Khan claimed a wicket each for NPC.

In reply, NPC also faced an early collapse, losing both openers, Kushal Bhurtel and Arjun Saud, for ducks. Amit Shrestha (18), Dilip Nath (10), and Captain Aarif Sheikh (4) struggled against TAC’s bowling attack. Rashid Khan (16) and Shankar Rana (13) provided some resistance. Gulsan Jha and Prem Tamang are unbeaten at 34 and Prem 1 for NPC.

Shahab Alam led TAC’s bowling with five wickets, while Sompal Kami and Pawan Karki took one wicket each. NPC ended Day 1 at 103/7.

Madhesh leads Bagmati by 68 Runs 

In Match No.2, Bagmati Province trails Madhesh Province by 68 runs at the end of Day 1 of the two-day Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup 2024 at the Ramjanaki Stadium in Janakpur on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Madhesh Province folded for just 102 runs in 35.3 overs out of 60 overs. Mayan Yadav top-scored with 21 runs off 36 balls, while Bishal Patel added 16. Niraj Yadav (12), Abhishek Tiwari (11), and Himanshu Dutta (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures for Madhesh.

Sandeep Lamichhane inflicted significant damage on Madhesh with a five-wicket haul. Surya Tamang chipped in with three wickets, while Nandan Yadav and Pratish GC picked up one wicket each.

In response, Bagmati reached 34/2 at stumps. Bagmati lost both openers cheaply as Asuthosh Ghiraiya was out for a duck and Rit Gautam scored three. Ishan Pandey ad Shubh Kansakar steadied Bagmati’s innings scoring 9 and 22, respectively.

Rupesh Singh and Bishal Patel claimed one wicket apiece for Madhesh.
