KATHMANDU: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has begun provincial-level discussions as part of its preparations for the 16th Plan.

The apex policy-making body of the government has mobilized separate teams to provinces for this purpose. The team deputed to Madhes Province is currently holding discussions with stakeholders. According to Yamlal Bhusal, the spokesperson for the commission, teams led by the commission have been deployed to all provinces to engage in deliberations regarding the draft of the Plan.

The discussion in Karnali Province has been put off due to the Jajarkot earthquake.

Meanwhile, NPC has formed several committees to facilitate discussions, recommendations, amendments, and approval of the concept paper and the complete document of the periodic plan. These main committee is led by NCP Vice Chairperson Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, while NPC members lead sectoral sub-committees, and division heads of NPC leaders head technical committees.

These committees will work together to draft the 16th Plan by collecting input from provincial governments, local authorities, and the private sector. The 16th Plan goes into implementation in fiscal year 2024/25.
