KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has expressed concern over the Simara incident and urged political parties to exercise restraint.
Writing a post on his social media page on Wednesday, Sharma described the clash that occurred in the Simara Airport area as unfortunate.
Sharma was referring to a clash between Gen Z youths and CPN-UML cadres near Simara airport earlier in the day. The District Administration Office, Bara, has issued curfew orders near the airport
“If the UML is standing against the election, then let us urge them to come to the polls. If they have not acted responsibly in Madhes Province, then let us apply pressure against that. If there have been emotional expressions made against Gen Z, let us advise them to speak with restraint,” Sharma said. “But no one can curtail one’s constitutionally guaranteed right to travel anywhere to express their views.”
Sharma asked the Prime Minister how elections can be held if we cannot create an environment for even a single visit. “Gen Z cannot stand against anyone’s ‘right to travel within society’. Thus, the Simara incident is not a Gen Z sentiment but a misuse of it. No one should engage in the politics of prohibition,” he added.
