No need to wait our report to act on criminal offences: Inquiry commission Chairperson of the judicial inquiry commission Gauri Bahadur Karki.

KATHMANDU: The judicial inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9 has clarified that any individual involved in criminal offences can be immediately investigated and prosecuted by the government’s mechanisms without waiting for the commission’s report.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the commission said its attention has been drawn to the home ministry’s statement dated September 25, which mentions that the government will take action as per the law after receiving the commission’s report along with its recommendations.

The commission’s statement has given the home administration the go-ahead to pursue an investigation against individuals involved in criminal offences during the protest.

The three-member commission, which is led by former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, has former AIG of Nepal Police Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari as members. It has been mandated to receive and analyse information or complaints related to physical and human losses and to provide necessary recommendations regarding action to be taken within three months.
