
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has stated that it is fully committed to the Federal Democratic Republic.
The Central Work Performance Committee meeting of the party held on Sunday decided to remain committed to the Federal Democratic Republic based on the constitution.
“The NC firmly expresses its continuous and full commitment to the constitution and the Federal Democratic Republic based on the constitution, and will remain so,” the party said in a statement issued after the meeting.
“The NC firmly believes that through the protection, promotion and implementation of the constitution, the country can be made free from corruption, well-governed and free from social distortions and disparities, while addressing the continuous progress of the people,” the statement said. “With this belief, the NC has decided to take necessary steps forward, considering it the main national responsibility today.”
After the meeting, party spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat to journalists that there is no need for a republican front. “Since the parties involved in the constitution-making process and new parties have also expressed their commitment, a republican front is not necessary,” Mahat said, adding that the NC is not in favor of holding street protests.
The meeting also decided to make decisions regarding sister organizations that have not been able to hold their conventions within the stipulated timeframe through the Central Working Committee.
NC had instructed its sister organizations to hold their convention within mid-April. However, most sister organizations have not held their conventions.
