KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has insisted that there are no legal or constitutional barriers preventing former Presidents and Vice Presidents from returning to active politics.
Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, he said neither constitutional law nor international norms prohibit such a return.
Dahal said former Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun was assigned responsibilities within the Maoist Center after he expressed a desire to become active in the party again.
He also maintained that there is no disagreement among the three political parties—the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and Maoist Center—regarding the strengthening of the federal democratic republic.
“There is no immediate threat to the republican system,” Dahal said. “My meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday focused on concluding the peace process.”
Dahal also said his party won’t support the current government, as it was formed contrary to the spirit of the constitution.
