No disruption in LPG supply from India: NOC

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has said that there has been a smooth supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from India despite global supply disruptions emanating from the Gulf crisis.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, NOC Spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur said that their sole supplier, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), is meeting the demand placed by them. “There has been no disruption in supply so far. The shortage seen in the market at present is due to unnecessary stockpiling by consumers following rumors of a possible shortage,” Thakur said.

He said the NOC has started distributing half-filled cylinders to manage the current artificial shortage in the market and to make the supply and distribution system more systematic.

“Since we are receiving sufficient supply, consumers should not hoard cooking gas. We are receiving supplies as per the demand until now,” Thakur said. “We don’t know what the situation will be in the coming days.”

Thakur said NOC would decide whether to adjust LPG prices only after receiving new price rates from IOC. “While we get new price lists for diesel and petrol every 15 days, the price list for aviation turbine fuel and LPG is updated once a month only,” he added.
