No discord within ruling coalition: Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that there is no discord within the ruling coalition.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 24th National Convention of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) in Kirtipur on Sunday, he said that the government was moving forward with a unified vision focused on political stability, good governance and development.

Oli also said that the power will be handed over to the Nepali Congress (NC) in 13 months as per the agreement reached between the two parties. “Our opponents are trying to sow discord within the alliance,” said Oli. “As competitors, we will contest elections tomorrow, but today we are united in government.”

The UML chair also urged the student wing of his party to play a leading role in fulfilling the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” through the principles of people’s multiparty democracy. Highlighting the historical role of student movements, including ANNFSU’s contribution in forcing the 1980 referendum and advancing democracy and republicanism in the country, he warned against violent activities such as vandalism, arson and school closures in the name of student politics.

“Let your conduct, speech, and behavior reflect the values of ANNFSU,” he said. “Carrying an ANNFSU card should not be a license to intimidate anyone.”
