KATHMANDU: Nirmala Sharma has been elected as the president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ).
According to the final vote count published on Sunday, Sharma was victorious with 4,282 votes. She defeated Ramesh Bisht by nearly 1,000 votes.
Sharma was the common candidate of Nepal Press Union and Press Chautari Nepal which are affiliated to the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, respectively.
Except for the post of Treasurer, all other elected office-bearers are from Sharma’s panel.
Dipak Acharya has been elected as the Senior Vice President, winning with 4,230 votes. Nitu Pandit was elected as the Vice President (Women) with 4,705 votes, while Umid Prasad Bagchand won the position of Vice President with 4,292 votes. Ram Prasad Dahal was elected as General Secretary with 4,292 votes.
According to the Election Committee, Ramesh Khatiwada was elected as the Secretary (Open), Sonya Sharma as the Secretary Women), Prakash Dhoulakoti as the Secretary (Dalit), Baikuntha Raj Parajuli as the Secretary (Associate) and Ram Krishna Adhikari as the Treasurer.
