Nine Nepali films hitting theaters in Falgun

KATHMANDU: Like in the past years, the winter months of Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December) and Poush (mid-December to mid-January) saw few releases. Films released during the period failed to draw expected footfalls.

Likewise, about half a dozen movies were screened in the month of Magh (mid-January to mid-February). However, even some highly anticipated movies struggled to sustain their run in theaters. Despite this, about a dozen films are preparing to hit the theaters in the month of Falgun (mid-February to mid-March). The lineup includes films of different genres.

Here we take a look at some of the movies preparing to release next month.

Rangi: ”Rangi’ is set to release on February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. The film portrays the love and struggles of a father and son. Salon Basnet, former Miss Nepal Namrata Shrestha and child artist Ayushi Dhakal play the lead roles in the film, which also features Dilip Rayamajhi, Uttam KC, Sumin Gurung and Bishal Pahari, among others. The film is directed by debutant Suresh Neupane, with screenplay by Suman Gajmer, cinematography by Saurabh Lama, music by Durgesh Thapa, Aamesh Bhandari and Bhim BC, editing by Bandey Prasad, color grading by Rajendra Moktan, and choreography by Kaviraj Gahatraj and Shishir Khati. The film is produced under the banner of Sanvi Entertainment by Sakhsam Subedi, Karishma KC Basnet and Anish Gautam. Salon Basnet, who also stars in the film, has ventured into film production with this project.

Dukhi Aatma: Also releasing on February 14 is ‘Dukhi Aatma’ – a psychological thriller directed by Dipendra Lama. The film stars Dayahang Rai and Anchal Sharma in the lead roles. Anup Bikram Shahi, Buddhi Tamang, Rare Rai, Pushkar Gurung, Kavita Ale, Lokendra Lekhak, Aarti Acharya, Ashant Sharma, Diya Maskey, Lunibha Tuladhar and Shishir Wangdel also play important roles in the film. The film is produced by Himal Kaderia under the banner of Clock Work Creation, with cinematography by Alok Shukla and editing by Nimesh Shrestha.

Tandavam: Releasing on February 21, ‘Tandavam’ is an action thriller with a family drama element. The film is directed by noted colorist Junim Gahatraj who is making her debut as a director. The film explores the ups and downs in the life of a couple after they have a child. The story, screenplay, and dialogues are written by Aniruddha Atreya and Hussein. The film features Pushkar Gurung, Prem Subba, Sarina Magar, Anoj Pandey, Kamal Karki and Gopal Katwal, among others. The film is produced by Dhan Kumari Gahatraj, Sabina Magar and Manish Gautam. The cinematography is by Hari Ghale Lama, action direction by Samrat Basnet, music by Sushant Gautam and background music by Kobid Bajra.

Ferii Resham Filili: Releasing on February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivaratri, ‘Ferii Resham Filili’ is the sequel to the popular film ‘Resham Filili’. The film, directed by Niraj Maharjan, presents the struggles of a young man trying to go to the US in a comedic style. The film stars Binay Shrestha, Supushpa Bhatta, Kameshwar Chaurasia, Neer Shah, Laxmi Giri, Prakash Ghimire, Ravindra Jha, Shishir Wangdel, Mahesh Tripathi and Mexam Gaudel, among others. The cinematography is by Susan Prajapati, editing by Suresh Paudel, and music by Kaliprasad Baskota, SD Yogi, Harka Saud, Jayan Waiba and Deepak Sharma. The film is produced by Rounak Vikram Kandel under the banner of Cinema Art and V Motion Pictures.

Laj Sharanam: Directed by Kumar Kattel ‘Jigri’, ‘Laj Sharanam’ is also releasing on February 26. The comedy film is produced by the team of ‘Sakkigoni’, a popular TV series, and features most of the actors from the series. The film stars Sitaram Kattel, Bijay Baral, Arpan Thapa, Sagar Lamsal, Hari Niroula, Mukund Shrestha, Bijay Lama, Arjun Ghimire, Kamal Mani Nepal and Mahesh Tripathi, among others. The film is produced under the banner of JPT Creation, with Navin Shrestha as the producer.

Mayavi: Starring Deepika Prasai and Pal Shah, ‘Mayavi’ is also set to release on February 26. Directed by Divakar Bhattarai, this romantic film stars Sameem Khan, Prashant Tamrakar, Sushil Sitoula, Karishma Shrestha, Laxmi Giri, Anshu Maharjan and Rajaram Paudyal, among others. The film is produced by Pravin Bhattarai and Karan Singh, with editing by Milan Shrestha, music by Shambhujit Baskota and SD Yogi, and choreography by Kaviraj Gahatraj and Praveen Singh. The film tells a story of love, separation and friendship.

Hostel 3: The third installment of the hit franchise ‘Hostel’ is set to release on March 7. Directed by Sashan Kandel, the film features new actors such as Paras Bam Thakuri, Rihan Giri, Padam Tamang, Ashish Ghimire, Simran Pant and Hana Nagarkoti. The film explores the struggles, friendships and fun moments of campus life. The story is written by director Kandel, with the screenplay by Madhav Sharma. The film is produced by Suresh Kandel, Karna Karki and Govinda Adhikari.

Outlaw: Dafa 219: Releasing on March 13, ‘Outlaw: Dafa 219’ is an action film directed by Bikky Maharjan. The film stars Sushil Shrestha in the lead role and also features Naresh Paudel, Shiksha Sangraula and Suman Bhandari. The cinematography is by Naveen Gurung, editing by Sahil Khan, and action direction by Chhulthey Kazi. The film is produced by Amit Agrahari under the banners of Shadow Pictures and Retro Films.

Anjila: Based on the life of Anjila Tumbapo, the goalkeeper of the Nepali women’s national football team, ‘Anjila’ is releasing on March 13. Directed by Min Bham, the film stars Anjila alongside Dayahang Rai, Sirjana Subba, Maotse Gurung, Bijay Baral, Buddhi Tamang and Sunil Thapa, among others. The cinematography is by Sudip Baral, and editing by Milan Shrestha. The film is produced by Prem Kumar Shrestha under the banner of Moon Love Entertainment.
