KATHMANDU: Nine persons have gone missing in Taplejung and Panchthar districts in Koshi Province due to floods and landslides.
According to the District Police Office in Panchthar, Til Kumar Tamang (45) of Hilihang-7, Sanjog Limbu (28) of Phidim-11, and Raj Kumar Rai (55) of Phitdim-5 were swept away by the rain-swollen Hewakhola River near the Hewakhola bridge.
Similarly, Ashish Majhi (28) and Alisha Majhi (25) were swept away by the floods near the confluence of Hewakhola and Tamor rivers.
The floods have swept away a two-storied house of Resham Katuwal in Phidim-4. Similarly, the homes of Ram Rasad Rai, Chandra Bhega, and Krishna Bega in Yangbarak-2 have been swept away in the floods. According to the police, there have been no casualties in Yangbarak Rural Municipality.
Floods have swept away four motor bridges on the Hewakhola River. Similarly, the floods swept away an excavator of a hydropower project.
Four missing in Taplejung
Four persons have gone missing due to floods and landslides in Taplejung district.
Three persons have gone missing when a landslide swept away the house belonging to Yadav Budhathoki at Mehele in Sidingba Rural Municipality of Taplejung. Yadav’s wife Bhagimaya, sister-in-law Sandhya, and grandson Prajjwal are missing, according to the police.
Similarly, Bharat Tamang of Mehle has also gone missing. Police say Bharat went missing when he was returning to the village after shifting his parents to a safe place after the water levels in the river started rising.
Floods have swept away the house of Rajkumar Guatam, while the houses of Deukumar Lingden and Guman Rai are at risk. Similarly, a landslide has swept away a health post in Mehele.
People in Sirijanga and Sidingba rural municipalities are terrified as the rainfall shows no signs of stopping.
