JANAKPURDHAM: A newly married woman has died under mysterious circumstances in Ramaul of Mahottari.
The deceased has been identified Rina Devi Raya (20) of Ramaul in Jaleshwar Municipality-8. According to police, Rina died at 1 am on Tuesday.
Rina’s family members claim that her husband, Rohan Kumar Raut, and his family members murdered her over dowry issues.
Rohan initially told police that he and Rina had dinner together and went to bed. “When she suddenly fell ill, I took her to the provincial hospital in Jaleshwar for treatment, where she was declared dead,” Rohan told police, according to DSP Santulal Jaisavar of District Police Office, Mahottari.
The bride’s family said they saw blood from Rina’s mouth and bruises on her neck when they arrived. They have filed a case of culpable homicide against Rohan and three other family members: father Brij Mohan (52), mother Mantor Devi (48), and brother Om Kumar (25).
Rina had only returned from her maternal home on Tuesday. Her body has been taken to Janakpur for post-mortem examination.
Police have not made any arrests.
Rina, originally from Sonigama in Hanspur Municipality-6 of Dhanusha, married Rohan on May 2 following social traditions. Her father, Nabal Raya, said they had spent approximately Rs 1.5 million on dowry.
