KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson, KP Sharma Oli, has claimed that the seven-party coalition government under his leadership has achieved political stability alongside various policy reforms in the six months since its formation.
Oli’s political report presented in the party’s Central Committee meeting which began on Sunday states that the seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress (NC) and UML was formally presented in Parliament by the Prime Minister to ensure its effective implementation and foster long-term trust between the two parties. UML has seen this as a significant step toward breaking the harmful tradition of manipulating agreements for personal or partisan interests and operating politics on a foundation of mutual trust, transparency, and integrity, the report adds.
It also states that the government’s policy framework and commitments, prepared by a joint task force comprising representatives from both parties, focus on protecting national interests, maintaining an independent and balanced foreign policy, upholding and amending the constitution, promoting good governance and quality service delivery, revitalizing the economy, advancing development, youth partnership, transitional justice and social harmony.
The UML has claimed that gradual improvement has been seen in the economy under its leadership. “The message of political stability and the formation of a strong government has boosted confidence in the private sector. The current government has prevented the economy from declining further and is steering it in a positive direction. The capital market has shown signs of improvement,” the report states, adding that Nepal is being seen as a favorable investment destination globally.
UML has claimed that substantial achievements have been made regarding transitional justice. “The passage of Bill on the Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons, Truth, and Reconciliation Commission by Parliament is a significant achievement. This issue, long neglected and mired in political maneuvering, is now being addressed,” Oli has claimed in his political report.
The report has cited various interventions to curb irregularities, ensure justice for depositors, and initiate punitive action against wrongdoers as notable achievements in resolving issues in the cooperative sector. Oli has claimed in his report that over 500 individuals identified by the parliamentary special investigation committee have been detained, and legal action has been initiated against more than 1,000.
Oli has, in the report, accused CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal of undermining parliamentary values, displaying instability and opportunism, and portraying an unseemly thirst for power.
