New police chief Dan Bahadur Karki assumes office

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki was formally decorated with the insignia of office at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal conferred the insignia on Karki, officially marking the beginning of his tenure as the country’s top police official.

Karki succeeds Chandra Kuber Khapung, who retired on Wednesday after completing 30 years of service, as stipulated by the Police Regulations.

Karki appeared visibly emotional while addressing the gathering. “First and foremost, I pay tribute to those who attained martyrdom in the line of duty serving the nation and its citizens,” he said, pausing briefly as his voice choked with emotion. “I will fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me with integrity and ensure that people feel the assurance of safety and service.”

The cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to appoint Karki as the new police chief.
