KATHMANDU: New Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, arrived in Kathmandu on Friday to assume his responsibility as the 23rd ambassador of China to Nepal.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu welcomed Ambassador Maoming at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu had handed over a letter of agrément to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 1, seeking consent for Zhang’s appointment as the new ambassador.
“It’s my great honour to be appointed as the 23rd Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal. Since my arrival, I have been warmly welcomed by friendly Nepali people and deeply impressed by the beauty and vitality of Nepal,” Maoming wrote in a post on X. “Together with my colleagues, I look forward to working with all Nepali friends to further advance bilateral exchanges and practical cooperation and promote the growth of the China‑Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation featuring everlasting friendship for development and prosperity.”
Maoming replaces Chen Song who completed his three-year term in December.
Before his appointment in Nepal, Zhang served as a Deputy Director‑General in the Asian Affairs Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
