KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal has expressed commitment to improve the image of the civil service and make administrative work more results-oriented.
Aryal, who assumed the office of the Chief Secretary, said the public perception of civil service had been deteriorating due to political influence, delays, and unhealthy competition. “It is therefore essential to bring changes that people can tangibly feel,” he said at a program organized at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
He added that employee management, good governance, service delivery, and development administration would be advanced as the “four pillars” of his tenure. On the occasion, he instructed all secretaries to adopt a results-driven approach rather than limiting themselves to routine procedures.
Aryal, who has been serving as the Defence Secretary, was appointed Chief Secretary by the cabinet meeting held on Monday. He replaces Ek Nath Aryal who took retirement on Tuesday on age grounds.
The new Chief Secretary identified federalism implementation, coordination among the three tiers of government, corruption control, and digital transformation as key priorities of his tenure. He also issued an 18-point directive to secretaries, urging them to eliminate service delays, the influence of intermediaries, unnecessary procedures, and political interference.
