New Bangladesh PM wishes for success of Nepal’s upcoming elections

KATHMANDU: Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended his best wishes for the success of Nepal’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

During a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma, who is in Bangladesh to attend Rahman’s inauguration, on Tuesday evening, Rahman said he was aware of Nepal’s recent political developments and conveyed his wishes for a successful election.

He also said Bangladesh was ready to work together for Nepal’s development, democracy, stability, and peace.

Rahman expressed gratitude to Nepal and the Nepali people for their continued goodwill and solidarity toward Bangladesh since its independence.

On the occasion, Minister Sharma conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Rahman on behalf of Nepal and handed over a congratulatory message from Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

In her message, Prime Minister Karki congratulated Rahman on his electoral victory and expressed Nepal’s desire to further strengthen Nepal-Bangladesh relations in the interest of both countries and their peoples through cooperation based on mutual respect, shared commitments, and partnership.

Minister Sharma also held a meeting with the leader of the main opposition Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Shafiqur Rahman. The two leaders exchanged views on key areas of bilateral cooperation, according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry.
