
KATHMANDU: Devraj Ghimire and Ishwari Neupane have registered their nominations for the election of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
While Ghimire, who was elected from the Jhapa-2 constituency from CPN-UML, is the common candidate of the ruling coalition, Neupane of Nepali Congress has the support of opposition parties.
Subash Chandra Nembang of CPN-UML is the proposer of Ghimire’s candidacy, while Hitraj Pandey of CPN (Maoist Center), Rabi Lamichhane of Rastriya Swatantra Party and Rajendra Lingden of Rastriya Prajatantra Party are the seconders.
Similarly, NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma is the proposer of Neupane’s candidacy, while Prakash Jwala of CPN (Unified Socialist) is the seconder.
Neupane’s candidacy is supported by NC, Unified Socialist, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Loktantraik Samajbadi Party (LSP).
The House of Representatives will elect the Speaker on Thursday through a majority vote. Candidates must have the support of 138 members in the 275-member House of Representatives to be elected as Speaker.
