KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed marginally higher on Tuesday, gaining 4.90 points to close trading at 2,639.91 points.
Although the benchmark index hit an intra-day high of 2,653.26 right after trading began, the market ended the session on a mixed note with selling pressure outweighing gains in several scrips. Total turnover improved to Rs 6.99 billion compared to the previous session, with 13.62 million units traded through 77,017 transactions.
Despite the index’s gain, 134 scrips declined, while 118 advanced and eight remained unchanged. Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 546.56 million worth of shares traded. SY Panel Nepal Ltd and Butwal Power Company Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 348.15 million and Rs 281.34 million, respectively.
The sub-indices of seven trading groups closed higher, while the remaining six ended the session in the red. Hydropowr sub-index posted the biggest gain of 1.02%, while Hotels & Tourism sub-index logged the biggest loss of 0.48%.
