Nepse up by 47.07 points on first trading day of 2023/24

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gains for the second trading day of the week, rising by 47.07 points to close at 2,144.16 points on Monday – the first trading day of fiscal year 2023/24.

The market opened for trading at 2,079.99 points and initially experienced a dip. However, it gradually recovered and eventually closed the day with a 2.24% increase.

Except for Mutual Funds, all trading groups recorded gains on the day, with the Development Bank sub-index leading the way with a 4.14% increase. Following closely were the Finance and Banking sub-indices, which rose by 3.61% and 2.86%, respectively.

Shivam Cement topped the list of companies in terms of turnover, with shares worth Rs 148.62 million of the cement producer changing hands. Himalayan Life Insurance and Shine Resunga Development Bank Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 108.46 million and Rs 77.51 million, respectively.

The share prices of 200 scrips advanced on the day, while 13 witnessed a decline, and four remained unchanged on Monday.

Shares worth Rs 2.56 billion were traded on the secondary market on the day through 50,299 transactions. The total market capitalization reached Rs 3.15 trillion.
