Nepse up by 25.93 points; shares worth Rs 4.8 billion traded

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) registered a gain of 25.93 points and ended trading at 2,006.28 points on Tuesday.

With this gain, the Nepse index has extended its winning streak to the third straight session. This is the first time since April 15 that the benchmark Nepse index has closed above the psychological 2,000-point mark.

Although the market initially posted a loss during the session, it recovered the losses and climbed to an intra-day high of 2,016.61 points before eventually closing the session 1.3% higher. Share prices of 215 companies increased on the day, while 26 declined and four remained unchanged. Shine Resunga Development Bank logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 182.42 million worth of shares traded. Next were Pokhara Finance Ltd and Gurkhas Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 170.14 million and Rs 162.54 million, respectively.

Development bank and finance scrips topped the highest transactions of the day. Three development banks and seven finance companies were on the list of Top 10 companies in terms of turnover.

Except for the Finance sub-index, all other trading groups posted gains on the day. The biggest gain came from the Development Bank sub-index which was up by 4.9%. Next were the Hotels & Tourism and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices which gained 2.53% and 2.39%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 4.8 billion were traded on the bourse the day through 75,271 transactions. This is the highest daily turnover since January 31 when shares worth Rs 5.26 billion had changed hands. The number of transactions is also the highest since March 12 when the secondary market recorded 81,986 transactions.
