Nepse up 57.55 points; turnover at five-month high of Rs 13.78 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index jumped 57.55 points to close trading at 2,772.17 points on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.

This was the market’s highest intraday rise since October 28, when the index had climbed 62.29 points. Sunday’s close was the highest since August 28, when the index had settled at 2,781 points.

The market opened on a positive note at 11 am and stayed firmly in the green throughout the session to ultimately end the session 2.12% higher.

Unit prices of 240 scrips advanced during the session, while 29 declined and one remained unchanged. Eight scrips hit the positive circuit of 10%, while five others gained more than 9%.

Turnover rose sharply to Rs 13.78 billion, the highest since August 31, when transactions had totalled Rs 15.36 billion. A total of 30.91 million units were traded through 133,529 transactions on Sunday.

Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover with Rs 435.93 million worth of shares traded. Green Ventures Ltd and Shivam Cement followed with turnovers of Rs 397.75 million and Rs 320.06 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the session higher. Hotels & Tourism posted the highest gain of 3.35%. Manufacturing & Processing and Investment were next with gains of 2.97% and 2.84%, respectively.
