Nepse up 40.76 points; Rs 21.86 billion worth of shares traded

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted gains of 40.76 points to close trading at 2,796.38 points on Monday.

Although the benchmark index fell initially, it picked up after some time and breached the 2,800-point mark. It, however, erased some gains but eventually ended the session 1.47% higher.

Share prices of 163 companies posted gains on Monday, while 78 declined and one remained unchanged. Unit prices of nine companies hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 1.26 billion. Next were NRN Infrastructure and Development and Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd with turnovers of Rs 493.87 million and Rs 445.16 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, seven posted growth, while six ended the session in the red. The biggest growth came from Hotels & Tourism, which was up by 6.69%. Next were Others and Trading sub-indices with gains of 5.73% and 5.75%, respectively. The Banking sub-index was down by 0.5%.

Shares worth Rs 21.86 billion were traded on the bourse through 238,078 transactions.
