Nepse up 30.75 points; turnover rises to Rs 9.2 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index climbed by 30.75 points on Sunday to close at 2,631.14 points.

Although the benchmark index dipped in early trading, it rebounded strongly to touch an intra-day high of 2,638.06 points before paring some gains toward the close. The market still managed to end the session 1.18% higher.

Out of the total traded scrips, prices of 205 advanced, 42 declined, and three remained unchanged.

Himalayan Bank Ltd (Promoters) recorded the highest turnover of Rs 1.66 billion, driven by a major share transaction. With Sunday’s trade, National Life Insurance Company has completed the purchase of 28,012,448 units of promoter shares of Himalayan Bank from Habib Bank of Pakistan. Earlier, on Thursday, National Life had acquired 14,006,230 units of the same stock from the Pakistani bank.

Union Hydropower Ltd and Butwal Power Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 343.05 million and Rs 254.82 million, respectively.

Total market turnover surged to Rs 9.2 billion, with 29.73 million shares changing hands across 68,112 transactions. This marks the highest turnover since August 11, when the exchange recorded Rs 10.02 billion.

Except for the Trading sub-index, which slipped by 1.1%, all trading groups closed in positive territory. The Finance sub-index led the rally with a gain of 5.18%, followed by the Life Insurance and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices, which rose 4.35% and 1.33%, respectively.
