KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted gains of 22.14 points and closed trading at 2,760.21 points on Monday.
The market opened for trading at 2,740.12 points and remained in green territory for most of the session. It, however, erased all the gains in the last trading hour, before recouping the losses to eventually end the session 0.8% higher.
Share prices of 143 companies advanced during the session, while 92 declined and nine remained unchanged. Microfinance stocks were high in demand on Monday as share prices of five microfinance companies hit the positive circuit of 10%. Share prices of five other companies went up by more than 10%.
Sahas Urja Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 381.78 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 261.53 million and Rs 261.06 million, respectively.
Eight trading groups posted gains, while five logged losses on Monday. The biggest gain came from the Microfinance sub-index, which was up by 3.2%.
Shares worth Rs 11.31 billion changed hands through 113,964 transactions on Monday. This is the highest turnover on the bourse since September 4, when Rs 12.78 billion worth of securities were traded.
