Nepse tanks 79.88 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) dropped 79.88 points, ending the first trading day of the week at 2,894.57 points on Sunday.

The benchmark index started declining as trading began on Sunday morning. Although the market made a recovery attempt after three hours, it fell further and eventually ended the session 2.68% lower.

Share prices of 185 companies fell, while 59 advanced. Three companies, however, bucked the trend with their prices increasing by the positive circuit of 10%. Api Power Company logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 846.81 million traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Shine Resunga Development Bank followed with turnovers of Rs 734.35 million and Rs 519.60 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, only the Microfinance sub-index posted gains, while 12 others ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Investment sub-index, which was down by 3.83%. The Others and Finance sub-indices were next, down by 3.55% and 3.5%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 19.74 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 218,578 transactions.
