Nepse tanks 54.62 points; turnover improves to Rs 6.32 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index tanked 54.62 points, closing trading at 2,614.68 points on Thursday.

This marks the sixth consecutive day of decline and the 13th loss in the past 14 trading sessions. Over this period, the benchmark index has dropped by a total of 265.6 points.

During Thursday’s session, the share prices of 230 companies declined, while only 13 saw gains. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd led the turnover with shares worth Rs 420.63 million traded, followed by NRN Infrastructure & Development (Rs 359.95 million) and Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd (Rs 348.27 million).

Despite the decline in the Nepse index, the total turnover improved to Rs 6.32 billion, up from Rs 4.5 billion in the previous session. A total of 12.37 million units of securities were traded through 72,265 transactions.

All 13 trading sub-indices ended the session in negative territory. The Finance sub-index suffered the steepest decline, dropping by 2.98%, followed by the Trading and Hydropower sub-indices, which fell by 2.83% and 2.5%, respectively. The Banking sub-index, a market heavyweight, also ended the session 1.55% lower.
